Day 20 -Thursday 30th June

Weather - here's a change, raining and about 20 degrees (apparentlyit always rains in Prague in summer)

After a fairly restless night - note: do not stay in hostels if you are not prepared to be woken by drunk tourists in the middle of the night - we finally managed to drag ourselves into the city for some coffee or kava as it is called in Czech. We went to a place called kava kava kava (appropriate really) which served the most massive cups of tea, coffee and hot chocolate I have ever seen!

From here we walked down through the old town to the Charles Bridge which has statues of saints and famous historical events all the way along. Most of the statues are almost black except for a couple where people have rubbed them so ofen that there are flashes of bronze. We walked up through the small quarter to the Prague Castle and spent some time wandering through the grounds and the St Vitus Cathedral which is quite amamzing. After that we headed into the Jewish quarter or the old Jewish ghetto (dating from the 13th century). The Jews were all but wiped out during WWII but the former ghetto area was maintained by Hitler as he proposed that it would be a museum of an extinct race when he had achieved his goal of wiping them out altogether - morbid.

We found a great vegetarian restaurant nearby for lunch which made a nice change (especially for Cory who had been eating a lot of meat up until that point). Then we strolled through the old town sqare and Wenceslas square. Cory had booked into a beer tasting class for the Czech microbreweries. In an unbelievable turn of events I was beered out and decided to leave him there to go shopping. This was a good idea as Cory required some assistance to get home - at least one of us knew where we were going.....
