Day 18 - Tuesday June 28

Weather - HOt, sunny early 30's - Nai is looking quite spanish in complexion.

A big day of walking today. Grabbed a coffee down one of the main shopping/cafe streets then headed for the museum district. Visited the opera house (again, in scaffold - I can't win with Vienna). A second coffee greeted us at Hotel Sacher, also home of the famous Sacher Torte. It was better than I had remembered (or perhaps a good batch?) Scaled St Stephen's spire (also in scaffold, but great nonetheless) and walked thru several parks and public areas including the Hofberg's palace areas to go to the Freud Museuam, housed in his previous practice office.

Then it was quite a lengthy walk to the Summer Palace of the Hapsbergs, the Shoenbrun. Amazing tour, and the gardens were second to none. If you've seen Versailles, I think this does eclipse it - perhaps not in size, but in opulence. The Viennese are world-experts in applying gold to absolutely everything they have.

Dinner was at a local pub, (the "Amadeus" :S ) with a few local brews and local dishes. The other thing the Viennese do remarkably well is bread. They really know their grains and rye!
