Day 15 - Sat Jun 25th

Weather - Fine, low 20's

After finding our ritual morning coffee we headed out through the Burren to the cliffs of Moher. This put the Clio though it's paces. It may have only been a 1.2l, but it had the heart of a WRC Rally car I can tell you! Great fun. The cliffs were astounding - we can understand why they are one of Ireland's most visited sites.

After that we headed back up north through to Connemarre. We stopped in to a castle or two on the way (has to be done) and then to Connemarre National Park. We both felt that this is what the Scottish highlands would be like, but in Ireland. We took a walk up the hill and took in the scenic views of the bay and the wild ponies (I'm sure they truck them in).

Then it was off to the middle of nowhere, to find our quite unusual accommodation for the evening. The Gyreum is based on an ancient Irish passage tomb and has views of 6 counties (supposedly... just looked like paddocks and mountains to us). Finding some food proved a struggle, as there were many 'bars' which had plenty of beer and locals, but no 'pubs' which would serve food. So we hit a stupor-market and headed home for our meal. On the way back along narrow winding roads we met a local, coming the other way. When I say 'met', we mean our mirror just managed to clip their mirror. Damage? Her mirror gone, our's swung back and only mildly shattered.
